Academics


Santa Clara High School is a private, Catholic, co-ed, college preparatory high school located in Ventura County in the beautiful city of Oxnard, CA.  The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and Western Catholic Education Association.

The school follows a semester system.  The first semester contains: Quarter 1, Quarter 2, and a final exam.  The second semester contains:  Quarter 3, Quarter 4, and a final exam.  Each quarter is worth 40% of a student’s semester grade.  The final exam is worth 20% of a student’s semester grade.

As a Catholic, co-ed, college preparatory high school we offer college preparatory courses, Advanced courses and seven Advanced Placement courses such as Calculus AB, English Language, English Literature, European History, Government and Politics U.S., Studio Art 2-D Design and U.S. History. Additionally, the school offers 5 Honors courses:  Algebra II, English II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Spanish III.

In order to graduate, a student must earn a total of 240 credits:  Religion - 40 credits, English - 40 credits, Mathematics - 30 credits, History/Social Science - 30 credits, Science - 20 credits, Foreign Language - 20 credits, Visual and Performing Arts - 10 credits, Computer Science - 5 credits, Physical Education - 5 credits, Health - 5 credits, Electives - 35 credits.  Our educational services are predominantly governed by the Archdioceses of Los Angeles which are aligned with the California State University and University of California systems.
 
Santa Clara students starting either of these two programs are automatically enrolled in coursework that will qualify them for entrance into either the University of California System schools or the California State University System schools, provided that the student earns grades of C or better in all coursework and a minimum score on either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT) entrance exam. 
 
Whatever program our students enter, our goal is to prepare them to be successful young leaders in any and all endeavors in college, the military or workforce.  Furthermore, we encourage all students to meet their full potential.  We accomplish this by holding students to high standards, implementing rigorous challenging courses along with developing a positive, nurturing and comfortable environment.
