Welcome!
The Social Science Department specializes in the education of students in their understanding of the world. Our curriculum is comprehensive and conforms to the California and national standards.
We are a 4-year program that emphasizes both informational and skill-based growth over a student's time at Santa Clara High School. Freshman are required to take World Geography. Sophomores take World History. Juniors take U.S. History with the option to take Advanced Placement. And finally, seniors take American Government and Politics as well as Economics. Seniors also have the option of Advanced Placement. Our AP pass rates are well above the national and local averages. Students will also have the opportunity to take Psychology and Sociology as electives within the Social Science Department
Department Philosophy
The Social Science Department exists to provide students with a Catholic Education with which the students will be able to be active participants in the global society.
The Social Science Department works through lateral and vertical alignment of the courses to create continuity within the four years a student spends in the department. Classes are designed to be vertically progressive and increase not only the students’ knowledge base but their skill set as well.
The Social Science Department works in partnership with the students and parents to develop the whole person. The Department is designed to engage the students in real-world considerations and to aid in their development as Christian young adults.
